I was recently whining to my mom that of all the domestic gifts I inherited from her, gardening was not one of them! My mother is a fantastic gardener and her yard and houseplants have always looked beautiful no matter where in the country we have lived. Of course I water them! Well…most of the time I water them. Okay no, I don’t water them. But come on! The NIMBUS is a patented self-watering pot that is different from other self-watering pots on the market. Instead of the water just sitting in the bottom of the soil (like it does in cheaper self-watering pots), this system allows the plant to determine exactly how much water it needs and can keep the plant watered for up to 4 months! To set-up the NIMBUS, you first select the plug on the bottom for indoor or outdoor use.
Next, make sure that the soil filter is placed correctly inside the pot.
Insert the handle to keep soil from entering the watering mechanism, and fill your pot with soil and seeds, or your plant. Once your plant is nicely contained, wet the top of the soil. Next, remove the handle and fill the pot with water. Replace the handle and lock into place. You’re done! Now just carry on with life and cross off “water the plants” from your weekly to-do list.
When the blue float can no longer be seen, you’ll know it is time to refill the reservoir with water.
You can use the NIMBUS as a free-standing pot or as an insert inside a basket, crate, decorative waste basket, or planter. You can also paint or decorate the NIMBUS pot. I considered gluing rope around my pot to add some texture, but for now I’m loving the way it looks inside my basket.
