This is my take on the popular family rules canvas idea that you have probably seen on many-a-blog. I decided to repurpose this old window that I had created as a shadow box awhile back. For directions on how to do the spools, click here . For directions on the clothespins, click here . To make the cards, I took index cards and hot glued burlap and canvas (drop cloth) to the cards.
I have horrible handwriting, so I just did my best on this next part. I went to dafont.com and eyeballed the fonts of my choice. Using a calligraphy marker, I did my best to copy the phrases onto the cards.
When I was finished, the cards looked a bit bare. I decided to bling them up a bit using some flower inspiration from my friend Jen@Tattertots and Jello . A full tutorial on how to make the flowers can be found here . I didn’t have any cute coordinating fabrics so just used scrapbook paper.
I love the way it turned out! Now I just need to find hardware sturdy enough to hang this baby. It is heavy!

Stopping back by to say "thanks" for your sweet comment about my kitchen. Take care, Becca (and, I'm still trying to find a spot for a family rules window). LOL
Yes you are right I have seen many of these projects around blogland. But never one as good as yours! I love it. Love the combination of materials, the set up, and of course the rules themselves!
Great job.
I absolutely LOVE this! I have a really hard time making things and not trying to make them look perfect. I love the shabbyness of it and would love to be able to create that on my own! You have done an amazing job on it!! I can't wait to see more!!
That's a great piece of functional family art. I love it!!
I LOVE this!!!! What a good idea. First I need to decide on my family rules. But then I really need to make something like that. Bravo! Yours is adorable.

ummmm this is freakin.adorable.girl. I love it, and may have to copy! I have an old teal screen laying around just begging for a new life!
I love this! I hadn't heard of the family rules being posted anywhere and think is a terrific idea and timely as my one-already-a-teenager and one-who-thinks-she's-a-teenager are struggling to follow a few of them. Thanks so much for the inspiration.
This is so creative and adorable!! You did a wonderful job! Love the little circle flowers!

How Cleaver! Love YOUR take on the Family Rules Board. Isn't it funny how everyone's creativity kicks in and turns out such cute, but different things? GREAT JOB!
This is wonderful, I have been wanting a way to make a attractive rule board type thing! Hope you dont mind if I steal, I mean borrow your idea!

That. Is. Fantastic.
Oh my goodness gracious! This is so stinkin cute. I just did my family rules. Make this for me and send it as a gift. haha Great job!!!
This is great and I love your adaptation, Beth! Look at all the different elements you've used that I usually see on their own ~ the clothespins, the flowers, the spools, burlap . . . I'd love to see where you wind up hanging it up! "D" rings might work good for hanging this. They are in the picture hanging aisle ~ at least that was where I found mine.
It looks great. This is on my list of projects too !
I've been looking for a good reason to get new windows;)
I love your Family Rules!!! Such a creative take on the popular phenom going on right now! I can't get over how incredible it looks – WTG – thank you for your creative inspiration.
Jen @ Noting Grace
This is awesome and so inspiring!~ I too have terrible writing so that little tip is a great thing to keep in mind! I have a hard time writing on a chalkboard!
VERY creative! What a great way to display your family "rules". And this project could easily be switched out at any time!
Chelsea
I love this! I love how easy it would be to add/change as the years go on unlike some of the other ones! Good job!
Love it! I'm still working on the actual "rules" but when I get them finished, I am def going to copy your idea! It's adorable, great job!
I really love this!!!!
REALLY cute! I love the little spools of thread with tiny messages on them. Good job!

Super cute idea…I don't have little ones at home anymore but what a good idea for young families…we were always trying to stress our family rules.
