Last week I gave you a tour of my Christmas porch. If you missed it, be sure to click here to see it in its entirety! Today I wanted to teach you how to make a Santa Bag Wreath of your own. This is a simple craft that anyone can do and is a fun spin on a traditional wreath.
You will need to round up the following supplies to make your bag. I used a few more supplies for my final product, but these are the bare-bone basics for this craft.
- white twin pillow case. (Look at a thrift store for one and wash and bleach it before use.)
- glue gun
- shatterproof ornaments
- fur trim ribbon
- garland
- paint stick
- 2 office clips
- grosgrain ribbon
Directions on How to Assemble Santa Bag Wreath
Step 1: Cut the sewn end of the pillow case down to your desired size. You can use the full pillow case if you’d like, but it makes for a very large bag. I cut about 5 inches off the bottom of my pillow case and then sewed it back together. If you don’t have a sewing machine, you can hot glue the bag back shut.
Step 2: This is an optional step. If you have a Silhouette cutting machine, you can cut vinyl to create a stencil for your bag. Place the stencil on the front of your bag and use acrylic craft paint and a sponge to paint on the design.
Step 3: To hang your wreath and make it easy to assemble, hot glue a paint stick in the back of the pillow case. Tie ribbon to two office clips, and hot glue the clips into place on the paint stick. The clips might not be strong enough on their own to hold your bag so the glue adds an additional safety net.
Step 4: Glue your fur trim around the cuff of the bag.
Step 5: Stuff your garland into the bag and arrange.
Step 6: Arrange your ornaments and hot glue in place.
That is seriously all there is to it! I added a few dollar store jingle bells to the side of my bag, and I love to hear them jingle in the wind. This is such an easy and different door decor idea than a traditional wreath and you can make one in less than 30 minutes. Enjoy!
