Bedroom on a Budget

Today, I am linking up to the Frugalicious Friday party at Finding Fabulous!  Sounds like my kind of party. If you’ve been following me for awhile, then you know that I am one frugalicious girl.  I am also one incredibly frugalfickle girl. Seriously, it’s a good thing that my fickleness only applies to home furnishings because otherwise I would be on my 10th husband by now.  I haven’t been happy with my bedroom for the past two years, and I keep tweaking things in hopes I will get it “right”.  If I had unlimited resources, I would paint the walls robin’s egg blue, change the curtains to a brown toile, put up bamboo shades, and accent the white quilt with fun patterned pillows.  That plan will have to wait…indefinitely.  So, what could I do with $10?  Well, I could buy a deep clearance daybed quilt and stick it on the end of my bed.  I already had purchased the shams ($2) so I was giddy to find something to match.  It is perfect bedding for fall and perfect for keeping my feet warm too!I wanted to dress up the boring shams, so I took $.49 felt from Walmart, drew some birds, cut it out, and fabric glued them on. No sewing involved.
I already had the throw pillow downstairs and just reassigned it to my bed.
And this flokati rug, renamed the bunny rug by my boys, was a steal from T.J. Max for $12 that I purchased with a gift card!  I love this rug.  Everyone should have a bunny rug.  If you don’t like animals but like furry things, I highly recommend it.  Zephan does too!
So that’s my bedroom on a budget.  If anyone wants to throw money at me so I can have the bedroom-on-a-budget-of-my-frugalicious-dreams, I won’t complain.  If not, I’ll still love you.  Promise.  Happy Frugaliciousness!

  1. The apartment we are renting has two bunny rugs and Ro can't stop lying on them…. they're great!

  2. SHUT UP!! I LOVE this!! The birds on the shams is crazy beautiful!!! Love it!!

That rug?? I want it!!! Seriously!

I love the coverlet thingy on the end of the bed too! Where did you find that??

    Great job!!

    Lou Cinda 🙂

  3. Oh, I do love the birds on the shams! Who would think they are fabric glued! Very cute daybed quilt – great way to use it! I wanted a new daybed cover, but couldn't find one for a good price. I bought a king size quilt and shams at a resale shop. Who knew that folded in half it fits a daybed? I love how you think "out of the box"!

  4. I love what you did with the pillows. I think I know what you were going for with the curtains and the blue wall color. I tried this color scheme once in my bedroom but fell short because I had too much royal blue and black to make it work without spending a lot of money.

BUT, I do really like that color scheme. I could give you some frugalicious advice because I love to!

JoAnn is having 50% off coupons this week (I think) I have an extra one if you wanted to use it. You could probably get your toile for $2-3 a yard. Don't buy it in the upholstery section. It's always WAY overpriced. And also you could buy material for pillows. I don't know if you sew though. Pillows and curtains are probably the easiest things to make.

As for the bamboo blinds I'd check out Craigslist. I saw someone wanted to sell 6 shades for $30 but it was in MD. I'd bet a closer offer would come up eventually.

I've also bought bamboo shades at IKEA for uber cheap! Like $5 a shade depending on the width of your windows.

I've also bought paint at Walmart and it's only about $10 a can as opposed to Home Depot which is about $18-$20.

Anyway, good luck! And again, I really do love what you started with the pillows and rug! I agree, a soft rug is a MUST HAVE for any bedroom!

  5. I think your bedroom looks very inviting. I love that rug too, you got it at such a steal.

  6. What a clever idea! I love it! Your bedroom is so cozy and inviting…I'd never want to get out of bed! 🙂

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  7. Love, love your bedroom on a budget! The colors are perfect for Fall, and those birds are beautiful…they look like they actually came on the shams, great job! Oh and I bet that rug is heaven under foot. Thanks for joining Frugalicious Friday Beth…love your thrifty ideas!

  8. Oh my gosh, I thought the birds came on the shams! You did a great job and the colors are a great addition to your room for Fall. Love the rug, too. I got that in mind for my potential future home office.
