Chandeliers for Less

I love chandeliers.  Hubby thinks they are girly and isn’t thrilled with the one I recently snagged from Craigslist.  However, if I had my way, I would put chandeliers everywhere.  Well….actually some might say that I have already had my way.  We have a lot of chandeliers going on around here.  (Side note:  As I was bundling up my boys to buy the Craigslist chandelier, my 2 yr old said, “Mommy, we already have chandeliers! We don’t need anymore.”  Hmmm.  I think he takes after his father.)  Anyhow, in case you share in my chandy love, I’ve done some homework for you.  Here are some cheap guys: 
Ikea $39.99

Walmart $62.88

Overstock.com $33.99
And here are some not so cheap guys:

Pottery Barn Camilla 6 arm $349.99

Sarah from Thrifty Decor Chick recently blogged about her gorgeous knock-off PB chandy that she bought from Home Depot for $299.  A bit cheaper and you can save yourself on all of those shipping costs.
But what about those of us that don’t have $300 for a gorgeous chandelier?  Do not fret.  I’ll tell you what I would do to recreate this look for less than $100.  Here is how: I would buy something like this below (although I’d check Craigslist first or buy the Overstock one above because with a little spray paint you could do wonders).

Then, I would go to Saveoncrafts.com and buy several of these branches for $8.99 each.  I think three should do it.  The branches are already wired so will easily twist into place around your chandelier.  Ta da!  PB look at a third of the cost.  Oh please, please if you do this, link to me and show me your creation!!!  In my mind’s eye it looks fabulous and my mind’s eye rarely lets me down.

Okay, so below is a picture of my $10 Craigslist chandelier.  And with a bottle of spray paint and some bling (which I’m still waiting to find for cheap, cheap, cheap) I hope to create it into…..

  1. I LOVE this idea. I am currently in the process of making my own PB re-creation by using the Walmart chandelier as my base (removing its current crystal overload) and purchasing a few of the wired crystals on saveoncrafts.com. In looking at the options on this site, I can’t figure out which ones you were referring to for $8.99. I couldn’t find any that are brown like the PB one – they all seem to be silver or gold. Suggestions? Thanks!

  4. Those mini-shades also make a world of difference on a chandelier. It just makes it more homey.

  5. I love several of these! I am also a fan of chandeliers, although I don't own any.

    Your post reminds me of one I wrote the a day or two ago. I found these two things that are technically not chandeliers, but both would be good in a teenage girl's bedroom to give the effect.

  7. I've been on the lookout for a girly chandy, and I LOVE the one from IKEA.

    It would be PERFECT in my baby girl's closet. Wouldn't it be such fun to hang a chandy in a girl's closet?

  8. Ooh la la…I have a thing for chandeliers too (and pillows…and curtains…and…:) ). I actually bought the Ikea one over the summer. Seriously…at $35 how can you go wrong?

  10. I tend to like the plain jane chandys but I do love the pottery barn one! You could put that in a messy toy filled bathroom and it'd still look elegant! 🙂

    Not that I've seen any messy bathrooms or live with one day by day.

  11. These are all amazing – I might give my first born for the PB Chandy – it's SO pretty. Ok maybe not but it would be a tough toss up if the little one gave me any lip 😉

  12. There's a little shop I like to look around in and they have some beautiful mini-chandeliers. I saw a pink and clear crystal white one that I love but it's $185.00. Too rich for me, so I will probably look to do one on the cheap myself. I could probably add pink crystals to the Ikea one.
