One of the unexpected things about blogging for me has been the relationships I have formed “virtually” with all of you. I am not a virtual-relationship-kinda-girl and would much rather invest in people I can see, feel, touch, smell, and hear. (Assuming you smell good of course!) But so many of you have captured my heart, and my friendship, and I truly look forward to hanging out with you here in the blogosphere…if not in person. Kathy from Creative Home Expressions is someone I always look forward to hangin’ with. She has a fabulous blog and a big heart. Recently, Kathy sent me a whole box of goodies “just because”. In my box were several fabric scraps, some fringe, empty altoids tins, ribbon, and some other crafty bling. It felt like Christmas! Included in the box was this gorgeous scrap. I knew immediately what I would do with it once I had some 50% off crafting coupons in hand.
I headed to Joann and purchased my burlap at 40% off and some jute rope fringe at 50% off. The jute rope cost more than the burlap per yard, but I was able to haggle over some flaws in the rope and get a piece of it at “remnant cost”…and use my coupon on the rest. What? Don’t look at me like that. The piece did have some flaws. Okay, so I admit I feel slightly guilty but seriously…there were flaws.
The fantastic thing about this fringe is that it’s already folded in half. All you have to do is place your fabric in between and glue! It looks finished and fabulous on both sides instantly.
But Beth, I only clicked over here because you had burlap in the title and so far I see no burlap. Oh do not fret my addicted-to-smelly-and-scratchy-fabric-friends, this is the part where we introduce the burlap. I wanted my runner to be long enough to run the length of my table which required some additional material. I also didn’t have enough of the jute to go around the perimeter of the entire runner, so I got creative. I used a bead of hot glue around the edges of the burlap to keep it from fraying.
Next, I glued the jute onto the edge of the burlap and then glued the burlap to the runner.
Total time of project from start to finish? About 10 minutes. Below is an aerial view with me perched on top of the arm chair that usually resides at the head of the table.
In case you are wondering, I DID iron the runner, but it was stubborn and I was impatient.
Not bad for a few bucks and 10 minutes of my time. Not bad at all. Thanks again Kathy. I hope you are not sad that you parted with this scrap!

This is so cool. Thanks for sharing the jute edging, I've never seen that before and now I'm scrambling to find some. How neat that it's already folded. =)
You clever, creative girl you! I don't know why I'm surprised you came up with something so fantastic and lovely. That was a great idea to add the burlap to the ends and the color works so well with the colors in the fabric. I love it! I love that trim, too. Anything to make a fabric project easier is okay in my book!
FYI ~ you should enter this in Frugalicious Friday at Finding Fabulous! decormama.blogspot.com
It would be perfect!
