How does your garden grow?

I was fearful that after being gone for five days my garden might be a bit, well, dead.  Since Central PA is doing it’s best imitation of Seattle this year, my fears were quite unfounded.  I am not a big fan of all the rain we’re getting, but my flowers are simply rejoicing in it.  Above is a picture of our back patio.  Did you notice those sneaky white impatiens amongst all the red?  It was not intentional on my part, but I like it :).  Below is another picture of their glorious redness.

This purple guy below was only $11 at BJ’s and I love him.  I should have snatched up more.

Impatiens seem impervious to my lack of a green thumb.  I can’t seem to kill them which is why I love them.  I’m not very creative when it comes to gardening (which surprises even me).  But as long as they are alive, flowers look great…even lacking in creativity.

My lilies are doing really well this year.  Wait a minute…. What the???

Here we have a cat lurking in my flowers.  Stalking my bird feeder no doubt!

Her eyes compliment my flowers nicely, but I’d prefer she found a different yard to stalk.

My animal lovers are thrilled to have a stray come to play!

Okay, enough of the stray cat and back to the garden.  Let’s move up to the roof deck for a peek around, shall we?

Yay! My herbs are still alive!  This surprises me even more than my lack-of-a-creative-gardening-gene.  I wasn’t sure they’d make it.  They looked so very sad the day I planted them, but just look how proud that dill is now!

Speaking of proud, my cute chalkboard signs are holding up nicely even in all the crazy weather.  What is it about a little slate label that makes something seem so much cuter?  I’ve warned my husband that if I start labeling the children with chalkboard signs to stop me.  Anything short of that seems perfectly acceptable, of course.
These last two pictures of my front porch should serve as a bit of a warning not to go flower shopping at the beginning of Spring.  You might seek the brightest, cheeriest flowers you can find and end up with cupcake-frosting-colored flowers which totally clash with your front porch.  These guys are quite magnificent but LOUD and a bit gaudy up against my red and green porch.  Ah well, I was suffering from a serious case of (SAD) Seasonal Affective Disorder and these guys were the medicine I craved.  Now they just make me crave chocolate cupcakes with butter cream frosting.  Mmmmm….  I think I need to go do some baking now!
Here’s the view I see out my front window.  You now see why I HAD to change those red curtains.  And if you are wondering, yes, I mixed these pink and yellow guys together because I thought it would look fantastic.  I think I’ll just stick with solid colors in the future!
So how does your garden grow?  Are you lucky enough to be growing pigeons and stray cats along with your petunias and strawflowers?  I’d love to see it all, so if you have pics please share!  And if you have been blessed with gardening creativity, please share that as well!

  1. I have been SO bad at maintaining my flowers this year, so I guess I'll just have to live vicariously through you. LOVE it all!

  2. Wow! What a great little hideaway you have there. And those baskets are to-die-for! Who cares about matching when it comes to flowers.

  3. Ha! I thought she'd say something about the horror of letting the boys pet a stray cat. 🙂 The garden looks great. Keep it beautiful until we can come see it!

  4. Your pink and yellow flowers make me smile…not everything needs to match!—Mom
