Introducing Carmel from Our Fifth House

Today, I’m thrilled to introduce you to Carmel from Our Fifth House. Carmel is my “partner” on Crafting with the Stars which basically means she does all the hard work and I simply cheer her on :). Hello Home Stories A to Z readers!  I’m Carmel from Our Fifth House.  I’m so excited to be over here today!  I’m participating in the Crafting with the Stars competition, and I chose Beth as my crafting star!  If you’re not familiar with that competition it is the ultimate creative competition that is hosted at the blog – Sew Dang Cute Crafts. 12 contestants are paired up with 12 blogland “stars” to duke it out in a 4-week themed competition, where you (the readers) vote for the winners. It’s been an honor to have Beth as my star.  She’s beyond creative and super supportive!  Ok, so I’ll stop embarrassing her now and just show you a couple of the projects I’ve entered in this competition so far.

The first challenge was the knockoff challenge.  I knocked off the Pottery Barn seagrass headboard.

Using an old door that was collecting dust in my garage, some manila rope, and a ridiculous amount of hot glue I created my own version of this natural fiber headboard for my guest room.

Besides loving the finished look, I also love that it cost me under $130 to make!  Considering the PB version is $499 plus tax & shipping, I think the hot glue burns were worthwhile!  You can find the full tutorial here.

The next challenge was the upcycle challenge.  I created an outdoor reading nook for my kids…….
…….using two pallets I found on the side of the road and some cans.
My kids love this little spot!
When the sun goes down, it’s even more fun.
My furry children have started to take over this little spot.
Who’s going to tell them they need to move?  So, the reading nook is now a doggy day bed!  Either way we love it, and it doesn’t hurt that it was basically free!
I’m still awaiting the results from this round, so I’m not sure if I’ll be moving on to the fabric challenge or not.  I do know that this little competition has definitely been the push I needed to get a few projects done that I’ve been meaning to do for awhile now.  I’m also thrilled to have had the opportunity to borrow Beth’s creative genius too!  Thanks again to her for having me over today!  If you’d like to come see what else is going on over at Our Fifth House feel free to stop by for a visit anytime!

    Wow how great are those Idears love them all, I have been looking for dog beds for far to long. Whoop Whoo I now have the right thing for my pooches thanks heaps I love it, what a great idear & my kids can sit with them to :))))

    I loved that reading nook! I totally voted for that one… it should have won- I tell ya!

    I also loved the head board! WOW! I am glad that i didn’t enter because the competition is FIERCE!!!
