I have told you about Stephen Alexander before. His Hampton Roads, VA homes are certifiably drool-worthy, and someday I would LOVE to own one. However, there is one teensy-tiny problem in actualizing this dream; they are completely out of our price range. But the introduction of his Little Big House series gives me a glimmer of hope! I have always wondered why more architects don’t design gorgeous homes that live large but on a smaller scale. Mr. Alexander must have read my mind and introduced a line of homes that are green, less than 2600 sq feet, and are priced in the low 300’s. Let’s explore!
This is the Red Maple and I love its barn’esque charm.
Board and batten with a large floral wallpaper. Yummy.
And my favorite The Walnut Cottage!

Just caught your photo at CSI Project when I was linking up my wood work (a TV Frame, Barn wood mirror, and whitewash wood walls). No surpise it was your photo. Your posts and photos are always so amazing! Glad I caught these. Wonderful! xox Sarah
I'm drooling!
I'm a huge fan of designing homes where EVERY room is used every day. I decided to study interior design after I read the entire series of "The Not So Big House" by Susanka. She talks about how with proper planning you can design a smaller home that fits your daily lives better than a larger house. She also speaks out against the "McMansions" that builders are so fond of.
Great post! I'm totally going to go check out that site. 🙂
that is painful to look at living in a small townhouse with no yard!!!
gorgeous!!!

gorgeous!!!
OMGness, these homes are perfectly my style! <3 And I am shocked at how beautiful they are for the price. The low 300s sadly doesn't buy much out here. 🙁 Now I want one of these houses and I want to move even more than I did before! lol
Beth,
I know another great architect firm that makes gorgeous 'little' homes and sell their plans. Maybe you've heard of them, they're bigger in the west coast.
If you like Stephen Alexander I think you'll like Ross Chapin:

Thank you so much for sharing the link and the pictures. I love these homes – especially the interiors.
Love this post!!! Oh wait, I love all your posts 😀
Oh Beth, you temptress! What gorgeous homes! I think mine right now is about the size of the pool building at the Walnut Cottage. The only thing missing is the pool boy! 😉
I left you an award on my blog! 😀
LOVE these!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! drooooolin!
Now to get the drool out of my keyboard. hmmm.
Wow, I am in love!! What I especially love is that while they are completely beautiful, they still feel like REAL homes that REAL people live in.
Drooling on my keyboard!!! Whatever style the interiors are done in…that's what I like!!
Beth,
Oooo! I have to go back and look at these pictures again and again again! So many great details to take in! I can see why the last is your favorite…it is awesome!
Thanks for the wonderful inspiration!
