Refresh Your Mantel for Summer

Thank you Kirkland’s for sponsoring this post!

The days are long and sunny, the kids are out of school, and dining outdoors is now the norm. Welcome back beloved summer! If you are a regular around here, then you know I love to frequently change my mantel decor with the seasons. Last month, I shared my family room makeover fresh with gray and blue accents. I am so pleased with how it turned out, but I really felt it needed a cheerier pop of color over the mantel. This Geometric Hampton Framed Mirror from Kirkland’s was the perfect find! It has a handmade quality, with distressed painted stripes in turquoise, gray, and white. The rustic unpainted wood sections compliment my wine rack and candlesticks beautifully.

Tip: When decorating your mantel, a fool-proof formula to follow is to make it symmetrical! You can seldom go wrong with symmetry. Start with a large grounding item such as a mirror, frame, wreath, or identical grouping of frames in the center of your mantel. Create balance on the left and right of your mantel by using groupings of items that mirror one another, and then fill in the blanks with smaller accessories.”

My grounding item for my summer mantel is the geometric mirror. Next, I used wood candlesticks on each end of my mantel to add height and interest. Then, I placed blue and green glass bottles from Kirkland’s in a mirror pattern across the front of the mantel. To finish off the look, I used some fresh summer greenery and a few sea shells in the bare spaces. This look took minutes to create, was truly effortless, but the end result is lovely and pulled together!

Tip: When decorating your summer mantel, use a symmetrical arrangement and focused color palette to achieve an effortless look. Hues in blues and greens always work well and are fresh and relaxing. “

I have been on the search for blue and green glass bottles for quite awhile so was thrilled to find the Aqua Moonshine Pitcher and Green Recycled Vase online at Kirkland’s! They remind me of beach glass and give a refreshed feeling to the space.

For the center of the mantel, I chose to use the Blue Glass & Rope Vase. It’s wider mouth and rope accent work great for grass or shell fillers. I love the coastal vibe that it adds to the mantelscape!

I sit in this chair by the fireplace a lot while I work on my laptop. After I was finished shooting the pictures for this post, I poured myself a tall glass of iced tea and went to get my computer to begin editing the photos.

When I returned to my chair I noticed that it had been accessorized by something furry. And she was NOT moving. 🙂 I think my little Pomeranian approves of the summer mantel updates. I grabbed my phone and snapped a candid for InstagramI share a lot of sneak peeks of my projects on IG. My handle is @homestoriesatoz, so be sure to look me up and follow along!
