The boys and I are currently in Virginia visiting my family while Matt’s away at a conference. I thought you might enjoy seeing some pictures from our adventures down here. Oh my goodness, these strawberries were so amazing! I say “were” because within two days our collective 10lbs of strawberries were transformed into pies, salads, and jam. These berries are nothing like the California berries that are currently in your fruit drawer. Oh no, these actually drip juice down your chin when bitten and taste incredibly sweet; no sugar dipping required. Zephan prefers his completely unadulterated (as you might be able to tell from the pics) but was also excited to taste them in jam form. Asher prefers to just pick strawberries and acted as if being poisoned when I served him p.b. and strawberry jam (instead of his usual p.b. and honey sandwich). Ah well, more jam for the rest of us I guess!
Zeph was pretty good about finding the red ones. Although, I think a few green ones made their way into his mouth as well.
“Ah, my precious!” Zeph refused to eat anything but strawberries for the rest of the day. He became a bit obsessed.
“Mmmmm, mmmmmm…” (In all fairness to the farmers, we probably should have weighed Zeph before and after picking! Anything he picked went straight into his mouth.)
Asher and cousin Evie spent most of their time running up and down the strawberry lanes chatting it up with unsuspecting strangers. There’s nothing better to a 3 yr old then a captive audience in a strawberry field!
He helped me mash the strawberries for the jam (really just long enough to take this picture; he was more interested in getting back to playing).

This looks so fun! What a great memory. Beautiful jam – I’ve been contemplating doing the same soon. I just checked out a book called “Jamberry” from the library and thought we could read it and make jam as a tie in. Anyway, so cute! Love you!
