9. Double Sided Tape Clothing Hack

How to eliminate button gaps

Blouses that gap between buttons can be tamed with double sided tape! You can use permanent double sided tape or for a better grip you can purchase Hollywood Fashion Tape that is made specifically for this purpose. Removable double sided tape will NOT hold. Simply place the tape in between the buttons wherever you experience a gap (as shown in the picture below). Just be sure to remove the tape before throwing your garment in the washer and dryer! The sticky residue will adhere itself to your clothing in the dryer. Permanent double sided tape may leave a sticky residue on your clothing, so it’s wise to test it first in an inconspicuous area before using.

  1. For button gaps, would it be better to use velcro, instead of constantly changing the tape?

  2. I find that shirts with a buttonhole that goes straight up and down tend to give a gap nore so than a buttonhole that goes sideways, so I don’t buy shirts with straight up and down buttonholes

  3. These are great tips! My only concern is the razor to get rid of pilling. Wouldn’t that wear out the fabric faster?

  4. I have a love/hate relationship with sweatshirts and sweaters because they pill after a couple of washes. I am so glad to see a fix for that! Thank you for sharing these tips, I’ll definitely have to try them out!

  5. You show using a paperclip to put on a bracelet, but you can also use a large safety pin. Just pin it right to the bracelet clasp and then un-pin once clasped. Use the paperclip to hide your bra straps. Good tips!

  6. I love these tips! The bra strap tip is such a great one. I’ve used the clips in the back before but never in front. Thanks so much for putting together a great list!!

    • I’ve found that the permanent tape or the Hollywood Tape Strips are the only kind of tape that sticks. Removable double-sided tape is useless and will not hold. The problem with the sticky stuff is that it can leave a residue on some fabrics and WILL definitely leave a residue if washed and dried on the fabric. I would test it first in an inconspicuous spot before use.

  7. I love the waist extendet tip with the hair tie and the other tips. Great ideas. Thanks.

  8. I’m super busty and have found sewing up the button shirt in the front and treating it as a pullover is the greatest trick. I can’t wait to try the shoe one!

    • Great idea! I do this, too. Even with nightgowns that have buttons down the front. Sewing them up and slipping over the head works so well.

  9. Beth, Thanks so much for sharing my underwire bra trick! Hope your readers find it useful. Love seeing these other tips too!

    • It’s such a great tip that I’ve used over the years! Thanks for sharing. 🙂

  10. I’ve got big breast and even shirts at the proper size make gaps.
I found this review helpful and great.
