Tonight my guys were begging me to make Halloween cupcakes. I wasn’t in the mood to bake, but I promised them I’d come up with some type of seasonal treat. I rummaged through the pantry and brought out all the no-bake items to see what inspired me. At first I tried to make some marshmallow spiders and witches using the twizzlers pictured below. If I lied to you and said my five-year-old made them, you still wouldn’t have been impressed. They were sad, sad representations of Halloween and well….had to be eaten….immediately. Fortunately, I was up for the job.
Next, I decided I’d make peeps. All three of the men in my life, adore these sugar-coma-inducing treats. I toyed with the idea of making my own marshmallows. (I have a great recipe that I’ll share with you come Christmas.) But we were talking L.A.Z.Y. and therefore needed E.A.S.Y. So, I filled a bag with sugar and some food coloring and mixed until it looked pumpkin orange. Then I wet a bunch of marshmallows–yes, as in, grabbed a handful and ran them under the sink faucet, L.A.Z.Y remember–and threw them into the sugar bag. I shook a few times, think Shake N’ Bake here. Placed them in a cute pumpkin dish. Piped on some stems with some pre-made green frosting and added some green candy “leaves”.
Are you ready for the grand reveal? Can you handle the suspense? Does my thrown together staging help them look more like what they are supposed to be—hint, hint: pumpkins? Don’t answer that last one. I’m sensitive today.
Ta-da! Wow. That is a lot of cavities in the making right there. Can’t you just feel your teeth hurt lookin’ at them all?
Perhaps I shouldn’t allow my kiddos to have so many to eat. I should decrease this pumpkin population as soon as possible. Ah well, again, it’s a tough job, but that is what we mommies are for, right? Saving our children from cavities, one sweet treat at a time.

I loved this post and have been meaning to try out your "Peeps recipe" for weeks. The boys loved it – they particularly enjoyed shaking the marshmallows up in the sugar.
I've posted about it on my blog and included a link to your site. Thanks for sharing!!

I love this! So simply and easy!
Baaaad mama! tee hee…
Actually, I have been craving anything sweet the last couple of days, so those sweet marshmallows are lookin' pretty good. Heck- I love rice crispie treats with a vengeance! But I add, to make them HEALTHY- *snicker snicker* – Quaker granola nut cereal!! ooooh, it has nuts in it (for health, of course) and fiber, and other good stuff…. yeah- uh huh…
Really, they always get raves because they DO add a different taste to the crispies! Oh, and I use extra butter and marshmallow, too. Don't want a dry treat…
This was tongue in cheek to start with, but I really do add this cereal. Try it sometime!

BTW, those little pumpkins are adorably sparkly. I don't eat marshmallows, but those I would make just to look at. 😉
