Halloween Mantel Linky Party

Welcome to the 2nd annual Halloween Mantel Link Party! If you don’t have a fireplace mantel but still want to join the party, no worries! Go ahead and link up your decorated shelf, sideboard, buffet, tabletop, flat surface, etc.

I’m so excited to reveal my own mantel to you! I wish my pictures turned out sharper, but I did my best in my dark home on this very gloomy-doomy day.

This year, I was inspired by Nester’s recent book page frenzy and decided to incorporate some book page goodness into my Halloween decor. Can you believe that I’ve never decorated with book pages before? And I call myself a home blogger…PFFT! To line the back of my board and batten with book pages, I simply tore out some old book pages and secured them in place with frog tape. I love the added texture and interest it gives the wall.

Below is my cute book page bat garland. To make this, I printed out a bat graphic, cut it out, traced it onto a stack of book pages and cut through them with scissors all at once. Then, I hot glued the bats to a string of ric rac ribbon and hung them in place! Easy peasy.

The spooky trees were created from butcher paper. At first, they looked horrible and kept unraveling. But after some hot glue intervention they started to actually look like a tree instead of a wad of paper. I was going to leave the trees bare but Matt thought they’d look better with some leaves. He was right. I created some book page maple leaves and hot glued them in place.

The cute witch and birdhouse were purchased at Hobby Lobby two years ago on clearance. The crows are from the dollar store and so is the moss. Tip: I just stick the moss back in a plastic baggie when done and bust it out whenever I need to mossify something. Yes..mossify.

Don’t you just love those baby pumpkin/gourds! I find them adorable.

When I was taping book pages to the wall, my four-year old was complaining the entire time, “Mommy, pages from a book aren’t scary. They aren’t Halloweeny either! It looks like boring decorations.” I told him to trust me….and to shush. When he came home from school today and saw the completed mantel he beamed, “See Mommy, that’s what I’m talking about! Crows and bats! Those are Halloweeny.” He is such a character.

My hocus pocus sign also came from Hobby Lobby on 90% clearance a few years ago. I needed something to spookify the hearth and this was just the touch.

And one more full view for you!

Now let’s see yours! Please grab a button and link back to help promote the party and so that others can also join in the fun!

  5. Looks great, Beth. I love how your son was being critical of the pages . . . my kids do the same thing . . .they just don’t get it. 😉 I’m glad to see your Bible still has a place amongst all the trickery.

  7. I love your mantel and enjoy hopping through all the decorated mantels. I am new to blogging and I am trying to link up to your linky party. I have the link on my page but can’t get the link to work on your page. Any suggestions appreciated.

  8. Beth- I absolutely LOVE your book page bats! Of course, the whole thing is fabulousness, but those bats are genius. Thanks so much for hosting this partay- can’t wait to see everyone else’s Halloween goodness! (I’m #58) Hope you’re having a great day!

  9. Love it! I love it when people use print for backgrounds. The whole thing is just precious. You are getting love, I assure you. We just don’t always have time to comment, or we think you don’t want to hear the usual, “I love it.” hehe… but we do, I promise. This mantel displays the Beth Standard of Greatness (BSG). 🙂

  10. Thanks for hosting. Your mantel looks amazing!! So does everyone elses!

This is my first time linking up. I just started my blog last week. I’ve read the tutorials on how to link back, but I am failing miserably. Help!!!!

  11. Super cute, the paper tree and book page leaves (heart)… BUT, my favorite part is the book page background! I love the texture and look!

  15. Love your mantel! I’m in the process of working on mine tonight. Just finished my leaf garland (with the help of my 9 yo son) and now we’re figuring out the rest. Might need to do the bat garland for somewhere else in the house because that is too cute.

  16. Beth… may I just say… it was worth the frustration for you and the wait for me! I really like it!! It’s so different and unique!! SUPER job momma!! 🙂

  17. Totally cute! To bad I am a complete slacker and haven’t put a mantel together in ummmmm over 2 years. I’ve got issues:)

  18. Looks great Beth. I think your photos are fabulous too. I read on FB you were having troubles because of lighting. I struggle with indoor pics as well. I love your mantel, and the paper behind is great.
