It is my fault really. I shouldn’t have started decorating so early if I didn’t want two very excited little boys to be bugging me, begging me, driving-me-insane about carving a pumpkin. We bought this guy below for $2 over the weekend. He was in the pumpkin reject bin, so we pitied him and gave him a home. Ever since then, my boys have been begging to carve him, stab him, color him, do SOMETHING to him.
Today I couldn’t handle it any longer. I got out my trusty glue gun, a bag of candy corns, and in between stuffing our mouths full we managed to hot glue some of the candy to create this cute bird. The great thing about this is that the glue and candy corns are easily removable and we will be able to carve him up a little closer to the date. Am I worried that my kiddos will try and eat the gluey candy off of the bird? Why yes, actually, I am. But for now, my boys are ecstatic that they managed to decorate a pumpkin, and I have peace in my house once again. If a little glue is consumed in the process, I figure it’s a small price to pay.
Below is another, less kid friendly, but totally cute owl pumpkin idea from Martha.
And this sweet little guy would be so cute sitting in our front tree. How about you? Are you ready for Halloween? Are your children or grandchildren driving you crazy about the big day? If so, I recommend candy corns…and reject pumpkins.
