I am part of the Lowes Creative Ideas Network and each month we receive a challenge. This month’s challenge was to create a DIY birdhouse, bird feeder, or birdbath to welcome the birds back to spring! I wanted to get the yard presentable for you all, so I weeded and then picked up some mulch and flowers from Lowes garden center. Huge improvement!
Matt is incredibly crafty and creative and he wanted to surprise me by completing my challenge for me. When I saw that he was using mulch bags, cardboard, and spray paint to make the bird feeder I raised a skeptical eyebrow. His response? “Could you please suspend your judgment until I’m finished?” Sure babe. I’ll try :).
And then I went outside to see this psychedelic freak-show hanging outside. Eek! If I wanted to ensure that birds never visit us again, this would do it. Matt even admitted that this project turned out to be a craft fail. Ah well, I LOVE that he took the time to try and help me out :).
I headed back to Lowes to find some supplies for the challenge and decided to just buy a bird feeder and make something else for my feathered friends!
The feeder I chose is a solar-powered lantern that lights up the yard at night! Soooo much better than one I could have made!
I also took a look at the bird baths at Lowes to gather inspiration for my DIY bird bath project. They have some lovely ones available if you’re not feeling crafty.
Here is how our tiny yard looks right now, and I will share my completed bird bath with you soon!
Do you get the Lowe’s Creative Ideas Magazine? This month they have a whole spread on a bunch of different birdhouses. Check it out!
Disclosure: Lowe’s provided me with a gift card to showcase this project this month as part of their Lowe’s Creative ideas Bloggers team.
Such a nice outdoor space! Your husband is a sweetheart for trying! I need to make a trip to Lowe’s soon. I really like their selection of birdbaths.
That was funny 🙂 Lowes definitely has some cute stuff.
I love all things for the birdies! Cool feeder! There’s a birdbath I’ve been eyeing at a local iron works & pottery place… it has openings in base for it to also be a planter! I want it. Can’t wait to see what you come up with.
I cleaned up the ole hummingbird feeder today (had to throw one away… even the boys (5 & 3, said mama can’t you just fix it… awww… they know I try not to throw stuff away) and cleaned out the bluebird nest box.
Hope to see some feathered friends soon!
Hey Matt, you tried! 🙂
I love the solar powered idea. What if a birdie wants a midnight snack?
Ha! Love it ;). I know I like my midnight snacks!
Aw, what a sweet husband for trying! 🙂
Your yard looks great!
I love the blue bird bath 🙂
Thanks Whitney! I like the blue one too and it was part of my inspiration for my bird bath. Excited to show you soon!
can’t wait to see. SO cute that Matt tried his best. No doubt with some help from a few cute boys??
Your yard is looking beautiful with all the flowers.
LOL! I really, really wish I could say that the design and paint was the boys doing but they didn’t really help this time :). Matt is amazingly artistic but this just wasn’t his day.
