Boys’ Bedroom Paint Colors

Boys’ Bedroom Paint Colors

A few weeks ago, I shared that I’m in the process of making over my boys’ bedroom and I asked you to guess which color palette you thought I was going to choose! Today I am sharing how I chose my boys’ bedroom paint colors and a helpful color palette creation tool.

With the help of the Sherwin-Williams Chip It! tool, I was easily able to settle on a fun yellow and blue color palette that I know my boys will love! Just look below at all of those gorgeous blue paint chips. How in the world did I narrow it down to the perfect one?

I’m so glad you asked! First I used photos from my Pinterest boards that inspired me and captured the feeling of the boys’ personalities. Next, I chipped each photo to see if any color themes emerged.

I am thrilled to see that Sherwin-Williams’s Loyal Blue and Rainstorm continually appear in the photos.

At first I was leaning toward the color Loyal Blue for the walls. After all, Emily Henderson recently posted her dining room makeover done in Sherwin-Williams Loyal Blue. I love the color online; however, once I saw the Rainstorm swatch in the store I just knew it was the one! Rainstorm paint color is moody and dark, yet sophisticated and with a touch more teal than Loyal Blue. I was sold!

Boys Bedroom Makeover Design Board

If you remember, the boys requested a science-bug-Star-Wars-dinosaur-nature-animal-superhero-inspired room. Although my design doesn’t hit every element of their request, it has their approval! I have already purchased the striped bedding from West Elm and the solar system mobile. I hope to make the giant letters in the upcoming weeks! Stay tuned for a full room reveal soon!

  13. As a huge music fan, I would love to “chip” some photos of my favorite album artwork from the 1960s. Though there are many colors on the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper cover, the main colors could be chipped and would stand out wonderfully on a wall.

  19. I have a picture that I had put on canvas years ago from our lake cabin when I was a child. I love that picture and would love to use chip it to bring out some of the colors of the water and flowers to make my spare bedroom all pull together! What a wonderful product!

  20. We are wanting to redo our bathroom and I would love to chip to the shower curtin I want in our
    bathroom.

  21. I had a lot of fun using the chip it tool! I selected several images that I have pinned and was amazed at the color swatches that the chip it tool selected. In several cases, these are colors that I would not normally pick as favorites, yet they were prominent within the image. For example, I chose a shibori image that I liked and chipped it – http://letschipit.com/Chip/PsDxHN?ow=1
When you hit the “more colors” link it includes a lovely marigold color that matches nicely with the various browns and blue colors.
I also pinned an image of a headboard made of boat oars. I really like the image, but I never considered using grays within my bedroom. Still I am intrigued by the image and colors and may change my mind on using gray in my decor: http://letschipit.com/Chip/9S83vV?ow=1

I would love to win this giveaway because we have large room upstairs that is unfinished and we are trying to make it into a master bedroom!

  23. I’m completely remodeling a house and starting with the outside. I would like to chip some of the natural things outside, bark, trees, grass and find some natural looking colors to paint the outside of my house.

  24. The cheerful round balls of hydrangeas are abloom on Cape Cod right now,. The glorious shades of rich, deep blues and pinks are everywhere, making me appreciate anew the joy of living in such a beautiful place. Last year, Sherwin Williams became my new favorite place, and I’d love to show my buddies at the SW store the Chip-It results of our gorgeous Cape blooms.

  25. I have this awesome photo that we took while on vacation of Prague that would be interesting to see what main colors are taken from it.

Here is a link to an image I actually tried the Sherwin Williams Chip It Tool on! I have the app on my iPad, and I wanted to pick up those beautiful blue hues in the curtains. It pulled out “Dignified, SW 6538”, and then it gave me the two coordinating colors of “Herbal Wash”, SW 7739 and “Canvas Tan”, SW 7531.

So cool – thanks again for the chance to win, Sherwin Williams and Beth! Crossing my fingers and saying a prayer for the home we are about to buy, I’m about to be up to my neck in paint 😉

  27. Our master bedroom desperately needs a makeover so I would use Chip It to find a color to match our new comforter.

  28. Oooh! Great giveaway! I could totally use that prize… we’re going to paint the exterior of our home! I’ll use ChipIt to match the siding colors of our shop… and pick a snazzy color for the front door!

I ‘m sure I could find many things to try it on!

  31. I would use chip it with a photo of my newly recovered cushions for wicker seating on the back porch. The geometric fabric has lots of colors & since it is a departure from my usual fabric choices I am having trouble picking out colors. SuziPblapere@att.net

  32. Hi! This tool looks like so much fun! I (using that pronoun loosely) recently re-ainted my kitchen cabinets in Sherwin Williams “Urbane Bronze” via a suggestion by a decorator/blogger. I am a “color chicken” when it comes to selecting colors…maybe this tool will make me braver. I would love to be entered in the give away. I need some “umpf” to the guest bathroom. When we moved in, we just put a safe neutral on the walls to cover up the previous owner’s dark royal blue walls. Ready to move on to move exciting color…

  33. I’ve never used chip it, but it looks like a lot of fun! Our ten year old son Landon, LOVES to fish. I wonder if I were to just open his tackle box and take a picture, if that would work? He would love a fish inspired room! O.k. now my curiosity is at it’s peak and I need to do this…now! 🙂

  34. The Chip It would be awesome to use on some of my different Pinterest decor idea boards!

  35. This is an amazing give away and ChipIt is even more amazing. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Can’t wait to try it.

  36. I have a picture of a flower that I would love to design my bathroom around. I could ChipIt!

  37. The picture I would use would be one with a soft blue sky with bright green grass and trees with maybe some daisies around the tree, that way I could find the perfect soft blue, yellow, gray and green!

  38. THIS ROCKS! I can use it for the shower curtain I just bought from West Elm for my bathroom colors.. Genius – and a great giveaway too! 🙂

  39. I LOVE Chip-It! Spent the first couple of days chipping everything. 🙂 I’d love to Chip a photo of our Christmas lights this year. I know it sounds weird, but you’ll understand if you saw our website.

  40. I wish I would have known about chip it before I painted our dressing/vanity area in our master bedroom. I tried to pull a color from our comforter and once on the walls it looked nothing like I was imagining.

  41. I would chip-it a picture I have of the blackberry bushes from my house! LOVE this tool!

  42. This sounds strange, but I would chip a photo of our house! The trim was painted by a previous owner and needs to be touched up. Maybe the Chip It! Tool would help to pinpoint a close paint color.

  43. I think ChipIt would be very handy when I find something on Pinterest that I love!

  44. I am leaving a comment here, even though I have a blog. Well, it is more of a bleh-log, as I have no idea how to use it. Anyway, I have been smitten with a color scheme and theme very similar to your boys’ room redo, but I would like to incorporate grey, navy blue, burnt orange, and a fern green. Here is the image, complete with the chip it! (http://letschipit.com/Chip/8nz5Z0/) Or you can view my pin to see the image http://pinterest.com/pin/201606520789675399/. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful tool! I have been a long-time Behr enthusiast, but the ‘chip it’ tool just may sway me to Sherwin Williams!

  45. Oooh I would chip some of the rooms on our first floor to find a complementary color to do our staircase leading to the second floor — I’ve kind of done crazy painting and need a more cohesive look. I love this chip it thang! Can’t wait to play around with it!

  48. I haven’t tried chip-it before, but I have a fabric scrap that I picked up a few years ago that I love but really have nothing to do with. I’d be interested to see what colors I would find in it!

  49. I have yet to figure out how to use this chip it, but we used Sherwin Williams paint in our recently built home and I’m still using it trying to finish up my media cabinets! I have a diaper bag with beachy colors that I love so I’m going to try to use the chip it tool on that!!!!

  50. I have an old bikini that no longer fits. It is a gorgeous pattern with great colors. I would love to take a picture of it and chip it.

  51. I would love to use chip it on a MadebyGirl Painting! Love those and then you could work the room around the painting!

    Thanks.
