This Salted Caramel Chocolate Chip Scone recipe only takes minutes to make and tastes divine! Dark chocolate chips, caramel chips, and caramel drizzle make these scones a great dessert or breakfast indulgence.
Thanks to Snowzilla, we have been snowed in all weekend with a record-breaking 30 inches of snow in less than 24 hours. What a great time to do some baking! My boys begged me to make some type of baked good to go along with their (gallons) of hot chocolate. I thought some salted caramel chocolate chip scones would do the trick! These scones are very easy to make and taste divine. Feel free to pin this recipe for later! It’s a keeper. Here is what you will need to make your own:
Salted Caramel Chocolate Chip Scone Ingredients
2 cups flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 Tbsp baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup (rounded) caramel bits
1 cup whipping cream (I only had half & half on hand, but I highly recommend using cream instead.)
Caramel Sauce Ingredients:
1/2 cup caramel bits
1 Tbsp water
The caramel bits by Kraft are the “secret ingredient” in this recipe but can sometimes be difficult to find. If they aren’t at your local grocery store, you should be able to find them at Target, Walmart, and of course on Amazon.
To begin making your scones, first preheat the oven to 425 degrees. In mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Add chocolate chips and caramel bits and stir until combined.
Slowly blend in the whipping cream with a spatula. Your dough should be crumbly but form a ball when clumped together. Add 1-2 T extra whipping cream if necessary to get the right consistency. When mixed, turn out onto a floured surface and knead several times.
Pat the dough into a circle or rectangle and slice into triangles. You can also use cookie cutters.
Sprinkle triangles with sea salt to taste. Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper, separate each triangle onto baking sheets, and bake for 10-11 minutes or until done.
Remove from oven and cool on wire racks. To make the caramel sauce, place 1/2 cup of caramel bits and 1T of water in microwave-safe bowl and heat in 30 second increments–stirring in between–until melted. Place melted caramel in piping bag (or in plastic bag with the corner snipped) and pipe onto scones in a zigzag pattern.
Enjoy! Recipe yields 14 small scones when cut as pictured. They taste best fresh but can be stored in an air-tight container for several days.

i love scones and this recipe looks simple and delicious.. my question is do u bake your scones using bread flour instead of all purpose flour?
thanks..

Good question and good catch! No, not usually. We are currently snowed-in with a travel ban issued by our city, so I had to use what was in my pantry and I’m out of all-purpose flour. I used bread flour and half & half instead of all purpose flour and whipping cream. The scones still turned out amazing but the inner-texture was different. Bread flour will produce a chewier and less crumbly texture.

ty for replying. that is good to know how bread flour did change a bit the texture of the scones.. love your recipe and would love to try it ..
