Blogging is a wonderfully addictive hobby isn’t it? And like all great hobbies, there are certain tools of the trade that are fun to have…and some that just make you look cute! Here are my recommendations:
1. Cannon Rebel or Nikon D5000.
Can you be a successful blogger with just a point and shoot? Of course you can. But I think it’s much, much more difficult. I would venture to say that all of the top home, craft and foodie bloggers have good cameras. They just do. Turn your flash off. Always use a tripod. Get a good camera. That will be the first bit of advice to you if you are serious about blogging!
2. Cute Camera Strap
Well, now that you have a fancy schmancy camera you might as well gussy up that black strap! I don’t have one of these yet, but I want one!

Beth I think it all depends on the individuals blogging goals. My goal is that this is a fun hobby that I don't take too seriously. It is an extra nice perk to connect and make blog friends. I also enjoy the gorgeous decorating inspiration.
My hubby loves his Macbook Pro.
I heart my new Sony touchscreen. We're a two computer family. He!
Happy Holidays! ~Melissa 🙂

Such a perfect post, of course! I love all the recommendations. I'm lacking the Mac Book, the cute bag, and time. Not sure how I'm going to get those.

Beth, I HAVE to share with you about a camera bag I bought on etsy awhile ago that I LOVE LOVE LOVE. 🙂 There is a picture and a link on this blog post of mine. Let me know what you think! I was very excited when I got it, lol.

Scroll to the bottom of the post I pasted here to see the bag and link.
She makes them from leather and rubbed canvas. Beautiful. Ok, just had to share because of what you wrote about camera bags. <3 Enjoy!

Great list. I've purchased my.com, but I'm waiting for more readers to do the switch, any advice on this? Take Care, Carrie P.S. I love my macbook pro, and I don't have an Iphone either…I do have an Ipad though {love it}

Such great ideas from all your comments… I have to agree with Richella… thick skin and a BIG heart are necessities. And maybe a super organized craft room so you can always find what you need! LOL, what a dream! Great post Beth! 🙂

Beth,
Love your list! What would I add? A 24 hour technical consultant who would be available to come here and show me what to do when I am stumped with something on in a program!
Take care,
Laura

My list would be pretty close to yours, but I would switch the iPhone for a Silhouette. I love my iPhone, and don't think I could ever own anything else.

Extra photo storage. So funny how after sending you that email, I ran out space last night!!! It was, as you said, easy! I paid $5.00 for what's probably another year of storage. I was skeptical about Google letting me go right in and start uploading again, but they did. 🙂

I soooo agree with your list. I'm good for about 5 out of 10. I also agree with two of the ladies…a nanny and photoshop.I have neither. I made my own cutesy camera strap. http://iffyscraps.blogspot.com/2010/10/ruffled-camera-strap-slipcover-tutorial.html

I think you left out one important item: Photoshop! Now, I have been using it for my graphic and product design for many years, but for blogging it is also absolutely invaluable! Resize your pictures; change the contrast; work with the resolution; save to Flikr; make a collage etc. etc. I really don't see how anyone can post quality pics without it!
Richella says
I think you pretty much covered it! Although perhaps "a thick skin" would be a good addition. It's so easy to get into the comparison game when blogging. . . it's easy to get one's feelings hurt. . . it's easy to feel a little "less than" sometimes. But blogging at its best is a community-builder, so perhaps along with a thick skin you need a big heart! 🙂
Kathy @ Creative Home Expressions says
I think you covered it, Beth! I got a new camera {looks similar to the one you've pictured} as an early Christmas gift and just started playing with it this past week. I want to learn what all the buttons do so that I take advantage of all the bells and whistles to the fullest. I did notice {and love} that it looks like it has a "tips" button right on the display when you are taking a picture. Haven't hit it yet, but I'm sure it will be helpful. And, then because I know hubby would want to complete the gift, I ordered myself a great strap cover off of etsy!

Just two things to add..
all of the above are excellent "tools of the trade"..
however, without interesting subject matter, and followers , one might as well continue scrapbooking/journaling for themself in their own world..
hugs.. Loui♥

A to the Men on the nanny! And Jen, photos are KEY to good blogging. There are a ton of great tutorials out there on how to get better pics but nothing can beat a quality camera.
