Ombre {trending in fashion and home}

Today is Fashion Friday and we are going to explore another hot trend! Ombre is a french term meaning shaded, usually a multicolored stripe that gradually fades from dark to light. In the beauty, fashion, and design world though ombre means hot…trending…current! Ombre has been around for many years but it is just in the last few that we are seeing this trend absolutely everywhere.

If you haven’t touched up your roots in a very long time, no worries! Ombre hair is in right now so you are good to go. Just let those highlights grow out! I’m sure there is much more to it than that but it seems like the cheapest option :).

I have been seeing ombre nails all over Pinterest. To recreate this look, simply buy  nail colors in a gradation of shades and paint from lightest to darkest. Voila! Ombre nails.

Shoes, bags, scarves, shirts, dresses, etc. have all been ombred out this fall!

  1. i personally love love love the ombre look! im tryn to rock the jlo ombre hair right now. when done correctly (and professionally) it can look shiny & new..not dull and trampy like the 80s box color look (note when drew barrymore had this) i also love the clothing and the dresser and shower curtain:) way cute.

  2. hi….liking the dresser and shower curtain…do you know were I can fine the shower curtain…..much thanks….

  3. I think trends take awhile to grow on me, but this one IS growing on me. I love that dresser, that wreath, J Lo’s dress and the ombre nail polish!
I LOVE the idea of an ombre cake too!
There’s an ombre-ish little girls dress at the Gap right now that I’d love to knock off for my baby girl. 🙂
    Love seeing what people think!

  4. It’s way cheaper for the ombre nails just to buy one color shade, then use drops of black and white nail polish to lighten/darken it.

  5. Ohhhh, shaded looks. I remember as a teenager buying a pair of ombre bell bottom jeans in pink they were sooo Hot! Where are those jeans now… as if!!! Loved it then and love it now, but now I like the looks that are more subdued, I could go for a blouse or the right dress (JLo), not jeans. And I love, love that dresser. Thanks for sharing the new trends and bringing back some fun memories of another era.

  6. I have seen this in furniture, I don’t care for it too much. I think it is fun to look at, but I wouldn’t want to see it in a well designed space, it reminds be of a paint chip. Love it in hair, fashion a maybe. Good topic Beth!

  7. Love it! If you can’t decide from the paint sample strip which color you like, just “ombre” it!

  8. Okay, should I be embarrassed to say I had no idea what ombre was until reading through this post? lol. Nice trends though 🙂

  9. I love the trend! I don’t know if I’d do the hair but the nails are super cute – and JLo’s dress is crazy pretty.
Thanks for featuring my wreath too – that was a fabulous surprise!! 🙂

  10. I would say it is fantastic except for the nails and hair. The hair looks like what we called in High School “the Tramp Hair” where you bleach your hair and forget to redo it. I believe with clothes and decor it could stay a while.

  11. I really like the ombre look. In some instances, it is overly trendy, and will soon be dated. But in other ways, it’s a great way to update and add some pizzaz to otherwise boring accessories. LOVE this post, a lot.

    • Glad you liked it Miranda! I think all trends in excess are…well…excessive :). But pops here and there are fun!

    • Out of all the ombre dresses I spotted in my search, JLO’s was my fav. There were some very interesting ombre wedding dresses and the most gorgeous ombre cakes! Love the cake idea. That might be the only place I use ombre.
