Spring Porch Decorating Ideas

I admit it. Winter is my all-time LEAST favorite season of the year. I was not made for cold temps and little sunshine. I get sad and literally S.A.D. (seasonal affective disorder) each and every winter. In spite of our relatively mild winter so far, I am still longing for spring’s arrival. Seeing all of the new outdoor Better Homes and Gardens products at Walmart has me hopeful that spring really is right around the corner! I decided to cheer myself up by implementing a few spring porch decorating ideas to help conquer the winter doldrums and enliven my front porch. Today I’ll share step-by-step how you can too!
Spring Porch Decorating Tip: Begin with a Blank Slate
Before I begin decorating, I always like to clear everything off of the porch. Starting with a blank slate allows me to thoroughly clean the porch and assess which furniture and accessories I might want to add or subtract from my new look. Here is what I started with.
Spring Porch Decorating Tip: Build from the Bottom Up
I created this fun step-by-step time-lapse video below showing how I decorated the porch from the bottom up. Specifically, I did the following:
- Added the Better Homes and Gardens Damask Indoor/Outdoor Rug
- Added rocking chairs similar to the Better Homes and Gardens Delahey Wood Rocker
- Added toss pillows. I show how I made the envelope pillow covers here.
- Added the wreath, table, flower pot.
- Added Better Homes and Gardens Colebrook Outdoor Serving Cart.
- Added accessories to serving cart.
- Smiled at my new spring look!

Spring Porch Decorating Tip: Think Beyond the Drink Cart
I love bar carts! They are practical for serving drinks, storing barware, and are just plain fun to style and decorate. I’ve been wanting an outdoor bar cart for the porch and was thrilled to find the Better Homes and Gardens Colebrook Outdoor Cart in all weather wicker on sale for only $81.31! It’s much wider than my indoor bar cart, and the large back wheels are not only adorable but make it easy to steer.
While I love to serve drinks from bar carts, practically speaking, we just won’t be doing that on our porch for several more months. In the meantime, I added some seasonal decor that just makes me happy to look at!
Accessorizing your serving cart with plants, natural elements, and items that invoke spring is a great way to enliven your porch.
Spring Porch Decorating Tip: Keep a tight color palette for a cohesive look.
Anytime you decorate ANYTHING, you will end up with a cohesive together look if you keep your color palette to a minimum. I typically choose 2-3 colors and work in various shades within those colors. In my experience the more colors (and patterns) you add to a space, the more skill required to pull off the look.
The addition of the Better Homes and Gardens Damask Indoor/Outdoor Rug really brings my porch to life and grounds the space. The navy blue, cerulean blue, and various shades of green are just perfect for a transition from winter to spring!
Excuse me now while I go enjoy a hot cup of tea on my porch! Care to join me?
