My family has a thing for meringues. My husband has always adored them and gets giddy when I make them. A thinks they’re delicious. And Z, poor celiac diseased baby who can’t eat wheat (gluten really), is excited to eat something that we will eat too.
Under My Sweet Treats tab on the right, you’ll see a bunch of meringue creations I’ve made over the years. Unfortunately, these little ghosts are not quite up to par :(. They look like those sad Halloween blow-ups the morning after. By the way, why do people continue to buy those things when obviously they scream “pop me please”?
So anyhow, I had this uber creative idea to make meringue ghosts. But like most uber creative ideas out there, others have beat you to them. I googled “meringue ghosts” and my suspicions were confirmed. Many others have made these little guys and made them in a bowl that did not contain grease residue.
I know this. I KNOW that if you want to be sure your meringue will set up then you need to be sure you start with a freshly cleaned bowl. I don’t know why the bowl isn’t just clean when you pull it from the cupboard. But from previous experience (and without pointing fingers in my household) I have learned it is just best to reclean the bowl. Sigh. I didn’t do it…. And so…deflated ghosties :(.
My crouched-down-half-melted-deflated-sadness on a platter seems to be crying, “Oh no!”
Oh no is right little ghost! Because although you might not be standing in all your maximized puffy glory, you still will make for a pleasurable gustatory experience! Ah, ha, ha, ha! Who is spooky now?
Mmmkay. I’m taunting my food. And starting to scare myself. Time to sign off.
🙂
Any of you making cute Halloween treats for your fam this year? If so, what?

I love the one with the angry eyebrows. He's too cute.
Love them! So cool!! Hope you have a great weekend! Best wishes Grete
Eeeek!! I can't stand the cuteness!! My boys would think these are so much fun!
So, so cute! These are a MUST for my sister's Halloween party. Can't wait to send her the link…thank you!
I believe my gluten free self will be trying these {and eating them up as well}! : )
Yummy!
I agree…they are too cute, even deflated. My daughter can't eat Gluten either, and I never thought to see if she liked Merigues. Thanks for the idea! I'm going to try em! I'm hosting a Girls Movie night on Saturday…what a cute treat they will be.
These are too cute to eat! I love them 🙂
If you get a chance this weekend, I'd love for you to post these on Not "Baaad" Sundays with LambAround.
aww, they are still cute!
I still think they look cute chubby and deflated. I have yet to make meringue cookies, what kind of filling are they sitting on? I totally want your platter..how cute that you can weave in seasonal ribbons!
I still think these ghosts are pretty cute. I usually make Halloween cupcakes for my kids. I am thinking of trying something new this year though. Maybe these. 🙂
Bwahahahaha! I won't tell you not to play with your food, because I think it is fun!
And those look great!
These are so cute!
How cute are those! But still, not nice to taunt your food. 🙁
I think they are adorable. La
