For those of you who visit A to Z for crafts, humor, and decorating tips, I promise all of those things will be back up and running on this blog very soon. This will not become the downer-dead Daddy-grief-blog. However, I am grieving right now, and I always promise to be real and true before you all.
Last night while huddling closely around my dad’s bedside with my two sisters and my mom, we prayed over my dad and sang praise and worship songs. It is exactly how my dad would have wanted it. The song/video below is the song my dad chose as the soundtrack to his departing this world and entering the next. His last breath was taken at 8:55pm right as the camera pans over the sea at the Sunrise/Sunset. (I’m sure that little blessing was just for me—see poem two posts down to understand what I’m talking about.) The video is beautiful and the accompanying verses perfect. It even ends with How Great Thou Art which is the song I posted here on my blog for my dad not too long ago. We couldn’t have scripted a better send off if we’d tried. Please take 5 minutes out of your life and honor my dad’s memory by watching this video. Thanks.
For those of you close to me, the details of the memorial service will be posted on my dad’s blog soon.

Beth,
I know from regularly reading your blog that you and your family have had time to prepare for this event but unfortunately no amount of preparation can abate the amount of sorrow you must feel. I am so deeply sorry for your family's loss and wish you comfort and reflection on many happy memories in the days, weeks, months, and years ahead. Your family appears to have a strong faith and I hope that this brings you the comfort you need during this time.

Yes, I do come here for the crafts & such. So sorry to hear about your loss. I watched the video and then clicked on over to your dad's blog. From what I've read, he was quite a man. (And I was surprised to find out he practiced medicine in Muskegon for a while…that's where I grew up!). God bless you and your family as you go through this difficult time. I hope you encounter many rainbows….like sunshine & rain make rainbows in the sky, so our tears and laughter mix to make "rainbows" in our hearts. Wishing you many happy memories…

Beth- I do not know you and have only recently stubbled across your blog. Thank you for sharing your dad's story and blog link. I spent the evening reading all of his blog and being touched by his love for God, his family and wife. Here is my favorite part-
#3 — My wife: Linda has been a faithful partner through some very difficult times this last year. Although I have not been bed-ridden as I was off and on during the first six months of this battle with cancer, I have been very dependent on her for transportation, nutrition, companionship, and, at times, as my peripheral brain. I cannot imagine life without her. Armed with a faith that has withstood the test of this trial, she has not missed opportunities to encourage others facing similar challenges.
Thank you for sharing. I pray you will find solace and peace in this time of sorrow.

Dear Beth,
As bloggers, we deal with words. As sisters reaching out, we find that words are not nearly powerful enough to convey the depth of our feeling. Still, we offer them. I join the chorus of so many to say that I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of your father.
One thing I do know: your father has not just entered eternal life. He has been living eternal life for many years as he walked with God here on earth. I am sad that the time he got to spend on earth was foreshortened, and I am sorry for the grief that you must now bear. But I am gladdened to think of his being very much alive, waiting to greet you again. I look forward to meeting your dad some day.
God be with you as you grieve.
Love,
Richella

Beth,
I'm so sorry for your loss. I've been following your dad's blog the last few months and he seemed like a remarkable man of great faith. I lost my mother to cancer in Sept. of 2008. No matter how prepared we feel when we know we are going to lose someone, the grief when they are actually gone is still very real and at times overwhelming. Take as much time to grieve as you need. I encourage you to let people help you in any practical ways that they offer, such as meals.
It gives them an opportunity to bless and help when there's nothing else they can do for you, and it's also a blessing not to have to cook. Those first few days are just exhausting and very emotional, although the Lord is always there holding you close, and we really appreciated the meals that people brought.

So, so sorry for your loss, friend–I know your heart is broken. How wonderful that you had a chance to honor your dad while he was here, and what a special blessing that his send off was exactly what he wanted. Take all the time you need–grief is a funny thing, and so different for everyone–the oddest things remind me of my dad and the oddest times. More than anything, my prayer for you is strength to make it through the next few days.
Blessings to you, your sisters, and your mom.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this difficult time. I lost my mother two years ago this April and it's truly a difficult thing to go through. I'm glad you're surrounded by family and have the support you need. Take your time, and be good to yourself. We'll be here when you return! oxox
